Chimney Sweep
Clean flue. Open draft. Safe burn.
Landstar sweeps chimneys and inspects per industry standards, removes creosote, checks the flue and crown, and flags repairs before they become a fire hazard. Licensed and insured.
Landstar sweeps and inspects chimneys across New Jersey, clearing creosote and blockages and checking the flue, crown, cap, and flashing before you burn. A standard chimney sweep and safety inspection in New Jersey typically runs roughly $150 to $400.
A chimney sweep is the cheapest insurance you’ll buy all year. Creosote builds up in the flue with every fire, invisible glaze in the early stages, hardened black crust by year three. Once it’s thick enough, a single hot fire ignites it and you’ve got a chimney fire that can run 2,000°F inside the flue and crack the liner from end to end.
Annual sweeping prevents that. We use top-down mechanical brushing with rotary brushes sized to your specific flue, with drop cloths and a HEPA vacuum at the firebox the entire time. No soot in the room, no surprise charges.
Every sweep includes a Level 1 safety inspection, camera scope of the flue, visual check of the crown, cap, flashing, and firebox. You get photos of all of it, and a written report with any repair items flagged. If we find something serious, you’ll see it in the report before we ever mention a quote.

Chimney Sweep questions.
- How much does a chimney sweep cost in New Jersey?
- A standard chimney sweep and safety inspection in New Jersey typically runs roughly $150 to $400, depending on the flue's condition, how much creosote has built up, and whether it has been swept recently. If the inspection turns up a repair, Landstar scopes and prices that separately, with no obligation.
- How often should I sweep my chimney?
- Once a year if you burn wood regularly, or before a sale/closing if the fireplace hasn't been used in years. The CSIA standard is annual for active wood-burners. Gas appliances need less frequent sweeping but still benefit from an annual Level 1 inspection.
- What's a Level 1 inspection?
- Visual inspection of accessible chimney components, flue interior via camera, firebox, smoke chamber, cap, crown, flashing. It's what NFPA 211 specifies for routine annual checks. If we find anything that needs a closer look (suspected damage inside walls or in unreachable areas), we'll recommend a Level 2 inspection separately.
- Will sweeping create a mess in my house?
- No. We tarp the firebox, seal the opening, and run a HEPA vacuum at the fireplace the entire time we're brushing. We've done hundreds of sweeps in occupied homes and our standard is leaving the room cleaner than we found it.
- What if you find a problem during the inspection?
- You get a written report with photos and a recommendation. If the problem is in our wheelhouse (crown, flashing, liner, rebuild), we can quote the repair on the same visit, no obligation. If it's something we don't do (e.g., interior firebox brick), we'll point you to a trusted specialist.
