Gutters are simple in theory and constantly screwed up in practice. Wrong pitch, wrong hanger spacing, downspouts dumping into the flowerbed two feet from the foundation. We see all of it.
Every run we install is rolled on the truck, one continuous piece, no field seams. We use hidden hangers spaced 24 inches and screwed into the rafter tail, not the fascia board. Spike-and-ferrule gutters are the kind that pull off the house in an ice storm, and we don’t install them.
If you’re already calling about gutters, get the fascia inspected at the same time. Nine times out of ten the fascia behind a leaking gutter is rotted, and replacing it before we hang the new gutter is half the cost of doing it later.

- Are leaf guards worth it?
- If you have trees within 30 feet of the house, yes. Micro-mesh is the only style we install, the foam inserts and brush-style guards clog up in two seasons. Leaf-guard products carry their own manufacturer coverage, which we confirm in writing with the contract.
- Do I need .032 gutters or are .027 fine?
- .032 holds up to ladder dings and ice loads better. The price difference is small on a typical install, usually 10–15% more, and it's the difference between gutters that look beat up at year five and gutters that still look new. We default to .032.
- Can you reroute a downspout that's dumping next to the foundation?
- Yes. We can extend above grade or tie into an underground line. If you've got a wet basement, fixing the gutter discharge is the cheapest first step before anyone talks about waterproofing.
- What about copper gutters?
- We do copper on historic homes and high-end installs. Half-round profile, cast-bronze hangers, soldered seams. Lead time is longer and the price is roughly 4x aluminum, but it lasts 50+ years and patinas beautifully.
